Agustin Codazzi

Agustin Codazzi is a prominent figure in Colombian history, known for his significant contributions to the field of cartography and exploration. Born in Italy in 1793, Codazzi later moved to the newly formed Republic of Colombia in the early 19th century. He quickly became an integral part of the Colombian scientific community, especially in the area of mapping and surveying.

Codazzi's most notable accomplishment was his role in leading the Commission for the Geographical Boundary Demarcation, established to determine the boundaries between Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Brazil. Over the course of several years, Codazzi and his team traveled extensively throughout these regions, meticulously documenting the topography, flora, fauna, and indigenous populations they encountered.
