Bolivar

Simon Bolivar, also known as “The Liberator”, was a historical figure who played a significant role in the independence movements of several South American nations during the early 19th century. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Bolivar was a wealthy aristocrat who became disillusioned with the colonial rule of Spain and dedicated his life to securing the freedom of several territories.

In 1819, Bolivar led a small army across the Andes Mountains and into Colombia where they ultimately defeated the Spanish and secured independence for the nation. Bolivar continued his quest for South American liberation and went on to play a pivotal role in the independence of several other nations, including Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia (which was named after him).

Today, Bolivar is remembered as a hero and champion of liberty throughout South America. His legacy is celebrated through monuments and statues throughout the region, as well as in the United States where there are also several streets, towns, and statues named after him.
