Buford

Buford is a small unincorporated community located in Albany County, Wyoming, United States. Situated at an elevation of 8,000 feet, Buford is nestled in the scenic Medicine Bow Mountains. Despite its small size and remote location, Buford holds a unique place in American history as "The Nation's Smallest Town." With a population of just one resident, Buford gained national attention and became a symbol of American pioneering spirit.

Originally established in the late 1860s as a temporary camp for workers on the transcontinental railroad, Buford grew into a bustling town during the height of the railroad construction. However, as the railroad moved on, the population dwindled, and by the early 1900s, Buford had become a ghost town. The town experienced a brief revival in the 1970s when Don Sammons, an entrepreneur, purchased Buford and became its sole resident.
