Candia is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 30.9 square miles, of which 30.8 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The town is situated between Manchester and Portsmouth and is bordered by Deerfield to the northwest, Raymond to the northeast, Epping to the east, Auburn to the south, and Hooksett to the west. The population was 3,909 at the 2010 census.
The town of Candia was first settled in 1743 and was once a part of Chester. It was named after the Parisian suburb of Candia, which is now known as Heraklion, Crete. Candia was incorporated as a separate town in 1763 and has a rich history, including being a part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.
Today, Candia is a quiet and peaceful town that offers a rural New England experience. It is home to several farms, including Apple Hill Farm and the Carter Hill Orchard, both of which offer apple picking in the fall.
