Chikan

Chikan, meaning "groper" or "molester" in Chinese, refers to the distressing problem of sexual harassment that predominantly affects women in public spaces such as buses, trains, and crowded areas in China.

This form of harassment involves perpetrators inappropriately touching, groping, or fondling victims without their consent, causing immense discomfort, fear, and humiliation. Chikan incidents occur frequently, affecting women of all ages, from young students to adult professionals, and have become a prevalent issue in Chinese society.

Chikan can leave long-lasting psychological and emotional scars on victims, leading to anxiety, depression, and a general feeling of insecurity in public spaces. Fear of being targeted discourages women from pursuing education, employment, and other opportunities, limiting their freedom and autonomy.
