Dahlgren

Dahlgren is a small unincorporated community located in King George County, Virginia, United States. Situated along the Potomac River, it is approximately 60 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 30 miles east of Fredericksburg. The community is named after Admiral John A. Dahlgren, a prominent naval officer during the American Civil War.

Dahlgren is best known for its close proximity to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), a major military installation operated by the United States Navy. Established in 1918, NSWCDD is the primary research and development center for the Navy's surface warfare systems. It plays a critical role in the development of advanced technologies and weapons systems for the Navy and other branches of the military.
