Brendan Eich is an American computer programmer who is best known for creating the programming language called JavaScript. He was born on July 4, 1961, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Eich studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later joined Silicon Graphics, where he worked on the development of the web browser Netscape Navigator. In 1995, Eich created JavaScript in just 10 days while working at Netscape. The language became wildly popular and is used to this day to make web pages interactive and dynamic.

Eich's career has not been without controversy, however. In 2014, he was appointed CEO of Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox web browser. However, the appointment was met with widespread criticism due to Eich's support of Proposition 8, a California ballot measure that sought to ban same-sex marriage. During his brief tenure as CEO, Eich faced a number of protests and boycotts, and eventually resigned after just 11 days.

Today, Eich is still active in the technology industry. He founded Brave Software, a company that develops a web browser focused on user privacy and blocking ads. The browser utilizes a unique system for compensating content creators using cryptocurrency, and has gained a small but dedicated following.

In 2019, Eich was awarded the EFF Pioneer Award for his contributions to the development of the web and the internet as a whole. He continues to be a prominent figure in the tech world, and his work on JavaScript has left an indelible mark on the way we experience the internet.
