Figuig (centre)

Figuig is a charming town located in the eastern part of Morocco, serving as the administrative center of the Figuig Province. Situated in the Atlas Mountains near the Algerian border, Figuig is known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The houses in Figuig are built with a unique technique using mud and clay, resulting in a beautiful reddish-brown color. These traditional houses are connected through a complex network of narrow alleys, creating a maze-like structure that adds to the town's charm.

Figuig is also famous for its ancient irrigation system known as the "khettara." This underground network of canals allows water to be transported from distant sources to supply the town's agricultural needs. The khettara system has been in use for centuries and is considered a remarkable engineering marvel.
