Golfech, France's Nuclear Power Plant

Golfech is a nuclear power plant located in the municipality of Golfech in Tarn-et-Garonne, France. It is situated on the Garonne River and is jointly operated by Électricité de France (EDF) and the Belgian Electrabel.

The power plant has two pressurized water reactors, which were commissioned in 1991 and 1994 respectively. They have a combined output capacity of 2,600 megawatts, which is equivalent to around 4% of France's total electricity production.

Golfech has been the subject of several safety concerns and controversies over the years. In 2017, the French nuclear safety watchdog, Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN), raised concerns about the safety culture at the plant. The ASN had previously identified several safety issues at the facility, including a lack of training for workers and the presence of non-conforming equipment.

Despite these concerns, the French government has renewed the operating license for the Golfech plant until 2035. The government has stated that nuclear power is a crucial part of the country's energy mix and that maintaining the safety of its nuclear facilities is a top priority.
