Hewlett

William Hewlett was an American engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded the Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) in the 1930s, along with his business partner, Dave Packard. HP became a major player in the computer and electronics industries, with Hewlett playing an essential role in the development of the company’s innovative products, including the first desktop personal computer (PC).

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1913, Hewlett received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and his master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1939, he and Packard launched HP in a rented garage in Palo Alto, California, with just $538 in startup capital. The company’s first product was an audio oscillator, which they sold to Walt Disney Studios to help them improve the sound quality in their movies.

Over the years, HP expanded into other areas, including computers, printers, and scientific instruments. Hewlett was known for his leadership style, which emphasized collaboration and a focus on research and development. He also established a corporate culture that was based on ethics and innovation.

William Hewlett passed away in 2001, leaving behind a legacy as one of the pioneers of the computer industry. Today, HP is one of the largest technology companies in the world, and its products are used by millions of people every day.
