Katra

Katra is a small town located in the Reasi district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, about 42 kilometers from the city of Jammu. Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims who visit the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi, one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites in India.

Every year, millions of devotees from all over the country and abroad undertake the strenuous journey to seek blessings from the Goddess Vaishno Devi. The pilgrimage involves a trek of approximately 13.5 kilometers from Katra to the shrine, situated at an altitude of around 5,200 feet. The path is well-paved and passes through picturesque surroundings, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Katra itself is a bustling town that caters to the needs of the pilgrims. It is well-equipped with various facilities, including hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and shops selling religious artifacts and souvenirs. The town has seen significant development in recent years, with improved infrastructure and transportation facilities to accommodate the increasing number of visitors.
