Knock

Knock, Ireland is a small village located in County Mayo, in the western part of the country. It gained international recognition and became an important pilgrimage site due to an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist that occurred on August 21, 1879. The apparition took place at the local parish church, now known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock.

The apparition at Knock is one of the most well-known and well-documented Marian apparitions in history. Fifteen people, ranging in age from 5 to 75, witnessed the event. They reported seeing the figures of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist, as well as an altar with a lamb and a cross. The witnesses stood in the pouring rain for over two hours, praying and reciting the Rosary, while the silent apparition took place.
