During World War I, Kummersdorf served as an artillery range, where various weapons and ammunition were tested. However, it was during the interwar period and World War II that Kummersdorf gained even greater importance.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Kummersdorf became a center for military research and development. The German Army established a research facility there, where innovative weapons and military technologies were developed and tested. This included the creation of the first German tank, the A7V, as well as the development of new artillery systems.
During World War II, Kummersdorf played a crucial role in the development of the German V-2 rocket. Under the supervision of Wernher von Braun, the facility became a key testing ground for the V-2 program. The rockets were launched from Kummersdorf to assess their performance and make necessary adjustments.
