Leshan is a city located in the southwestern province of Sichuan in China. The city is best known for the Leshan Giant Buddha, a towering statue of Buddha located in a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. The statue is approximately 71 meters tall and is considered one of the largest stone Buddha statues in the world. Its construction began during the Tang dynasty in the 8th century and was completed in the early 9th century.
Aside from the Leshan Giant Buddha, the city offers several other tourist attractions such as Mount Emei, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, as well as the Lingyun Temple, which is located on the mountainside of Mount Emei. Leshan is also home to Leshan Normal University and the Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, which commemorates the Communist Party's military activities in the area during the Chinese Civil War.
