Charles Manson is a notorious American cult leader and criminal who gained infamy in the late 1960s for his involvement in a series of murders in California. Born in 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Manson grew up in a troubled household and quickly found himself in and out of juvenile detention centers and prisons.
He formed a cult-like group known as the Manson Family in the 1960s, which attracted mostly young, impressionable women who became infatuated with him. In August 1969, Manson instructed some of his followers to carry out a brutal spree of murders, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate who was eight months pregnant at the time.
Manson and several of his followers were arrested, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison for their crimes. Manson died in prison in 2017 at the age of 83.
The Manson murders shocked the nation and left a lasting impact on American culture. Manson has been the subject of numerous books, films, and other works of art, and his legacy continues to fascinate and disturb people to this day.
