Mastic

Mastic is a hamlet located in the town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is situated on the south shore of Long Island, approximately 70 miles east of Manhattan. Mastic is part of the larger community known as Mastic Beach, which includes neighboring areas such as Shirley and Moriches. The hamlet is known for its scenic beauty, with its proximity to the Great South Bay and the sprawling Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge.

Mastic has a rich history dating back to colonial times. The area was originally inhabited by the Unkechaug Native American tribe before being settled by European colonists in the late 17th century. The hamlet played a significant role in the American Revolution, serving as a base for the Culper Spy Ring, a group of American spies who provided crucial intelligence to General George Washington.

Today, Mastic is a diverse community with a population of approximately 15,000 residents. The hamlet offers a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational opportunities.
