Offutt Air Force Base

Offutt Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located near Omaha, Nebraska. It serves as the headquarters for the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and is home to the 55th Wing, which is responsible for electronic combat worldwide.

Established in 1918 as Fort Crook, the base was originally used by the U.S. Army Signal Corps for radio communications. It was later transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps and eventually became Offutt Field in 1924. During World War II, the base played a crucial role in training thousands of bomber crews and served as a major refueling stop for aircraft traveling across the Pacific. In 1948, it was officially designated as Offutt Air Force Base.

Today, Offutt Air Force Base is not only a strategic command center but also a vital hub for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. It houses the USSTRATCOM Command Center, from where military operations are planned and executed. The 55th Wing conducts a wide range of missions, including reconnaissance, command and control, and combat support. The base also hosts several partner units, including the 557th Weather Wing and the 595th Command and Control Group, which contribute to its overall operational capabilities.
