Paretz is known for its Baroque castle which was built in the 18th century for the Queen Dowager Elisabeth Christine, the wife of King Frederick II. The castle has been restored and is now open to the public for tours. The village also has a park that surrounds the castle, known as Paretzer Park, which features walking trails, a playground, and a pond.

The village has a rich history and was once the summer residence of the Prussian royal family. It was also the birthplace of Prince Wilhelm, who later became Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany.
