Plesetsk

Plesetsk is a small town located in the Arkhangelsk Oblast of the Russian Federation. Situated approximately 800 kilometers northeast of Moscow, Plesetsk serves as an important military and spaceport center for Russia. The town is situated on the banks of the Plesetskaya River, which flows into the Northern Dvina River. Plesetsk has a population of around 10,000 people, and it covers an area of approximately 10 square kilometers.

The main attraction of Plesetsk is the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, which is one of the most significant spaceports in Russia. Established in 1957, it became the first and largest spaceport in the Soviet Union. The strategic location of Plesetsk, far from populated areas, makes it an ideal site for conducting space launches. The cosmodrome has witnessed the launch of numerous satellites, military spacecraft, and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

In addition to its spaceport, Plesetsk also serves as a military town. It houses several military units and installations, including the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade and the 821st Air Base. The military presence in Plesetsk contributes to the town's economy and provides employment opportunities for the local population.

Plesetsk experiences a subarctic climate, characterized by long, cold winters and short, mild summers. The town is covered in snow for a significant part of the year, and temperatures can drop well below freezing.
