Qubadli

Qubadli is a district located in Azerbaijan, a country situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is nestled in the southern part of the country, surrounded by other regions such as Lachin to the north, Kalbajar to the northwest, and Zangilan to the south. Qubadli shares its eastern border with the internationally recognized Republic of Azerbaijan, while its western border is adjacent to the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is currently under the control of the self-declared Republic of Artsakh.

Qubadli covers an area of approximately 802 square kilometers, making it one of the smaller districts in Azerbaijan. Despite its size, it boasts a diverse topography, encompassing both lowland plains and high mountain ranges. The district is predominantly mountainous, with the peak of Mount Zangazur serving as its highest point. This varied landscape provides Qubadli with abundant natural resources, including fertile soil and rich biodiversity.

The population of Qubadli consists mainly of Azerbaijanis, who have historically inhabited the region for centuries. However, due to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, many Azerbaijanis were forcibly displaced from Qubadli and other surrounding areas. The district has been under Armenian control since 1993, resulting in the mass exodus of the Azerbaijani population and the establishment of an ethnically homogenous Armenian community.
