Rugby United States, commonly referred to as USA Rugby, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the United States. It was founded in 1975 and is a member of World Rugby, the international governing body for rugby. USA Rugby is responsible for organizing and overseeing all aspects of rugby union in the country, including national teams, domestic competitions, and development programs.
Rugby has a long history in the United States, with the first recorded match taking place in 1874. However, the sport has traditionally been overshadowed by more popular American sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. Despite this, rugby has seen significant growth in recent years, with a growing number of clubs, players, and fans across the country.
USA Rugby fields both men's and women's national teams, which compete in international competitions such as the Rugby World Cup and the Olympics. The men's team, known as the Eagles, has made significant strides in recent years, achieving their highest-ever world ranking in 2018. The women's team, known as the Eagles Sevens, has also been successful, winning multiple medals in the Rugby Sevens World Series.
