Salcha

Salcha is a small unincorporated community in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area of the state of Alaska, United States. It is located along the eastern banks of the Salcha River, about 40 miles south of Fairbanks. The community is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, with the Salcha River Valley offering picturesque views of mountains, forests, and wildlife.

The area was traditionally inhabited by the Upper Tanana Athabaskan people, who relied on hunting, fishing, and trapping for their livelihoods. In the early 1900s, European settlers began arriving in Salcha, attracted by the opportunities offered by the gold rush in nearby Fairbanks. Homesteaders also flocked to the region, lured by the promise of free land under the Homestead Act of 1862.

Today, Salcha is a tight-knit community with a population of around 1,100 residents. The main economic activities in the area include subsistence hunting and fishing, as well as tourism. The community is known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with residents often organizing events and festivals to celebrate their unique local culture.

Salcha offers a wide range of outdoor recreational activities, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. Fishing is a popular pastime, with the Salcha River being home to a variety of fish species, including salmon and trout.
