Getting to know Sinjil

Sinjil is a Palestinian village located in the central West Bank, within the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate. Situated approximately 25 kilometers north of Ramallah, Sinjil is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and olive groves. The village covers an area of about 9,000 dunams (2,224 acres) and is home to a population of around 3,500 people.

With a rich history that dates back thousands of years, Sinjil boasts several archaeological sites that are of great significance. One of the most notable sites is Khirbet Sarik, an ancient Canaanite city located on the outskirts of the village. The ruins of this city, including its defensive walls and water cisterns, offer a glimpse into the area's past civilizations.

The economy of Sinjil relies heavily on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of olives and grapes. The village is renowned for its high-quality olive oil, which is produced from the abundant olive trees that dot the landscape. Additionally, Sinjil is famous for its vineyards, where grapes are grown to make traditional Palestinian wine.

Despite its natural beauty and historical significance, Sinjil faces numerous challenges due to the Israeli occupation. The village is located in Area C, which is under full Israeli control according to the Oslo Accords. This has resulted in restrictions on construction and development, making it difficult for residents to expand their homes or build new infrastructure.
