The city is known for its large Hispanic population and is part of the Yakima Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Sunnyside was first settled in 1883 when Walter Granger established a homestead in the area. The city was officially incorporated on September 16, 1902. Sunnyside has a rich agricultural history and is known for producing a variety of fruits and vegetables, including hops, grapes, and apples.
