Aaron Swartz was a prominent United States-based computer programmer, writer, and Internet activist. Born on November 8, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, Swartz grew up with an exceptional aptitude for programming and a strong belief in the power of the internet to bring about positive change. Early on, he co-authored the RSS 1.0 specification at the age of 14, a fundamental technology that allows users to subscribe to website content.

Swartz's passionate advocacy for open access to knowledge and information led him to become a key figure in the fight against internet censorship and corporate control of online content. He was a co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Demand Progress, organizations that campaigned for net neutrality and against the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

Unfortunately, Swartz's life was tragically cut short on January 11, 2013, when he took his own life at the age of 26. The circumstances leading to his death were deeply intertwined with his legal battles. Swartz faced multiple federal charges and potential imprisonment for allegedly downloading a large number of academic journal articles from the digital library JSTOR, using MIT's network.
