Tykocin

Tykocin is a small town located in northeastern Poland. Situated in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, it lies on the banks of the Narew River. With a population of around 2,000 residents, Tykocin is known for its rich history and well-preserved architecture.

The town dates back to the 15th century and was granted city rights in 1425. It flourished during the Renaissance period, becoming an important center of trade and commerce. Tykocin was home to a thriving Jewish community and was often referred to as the "Jerusalem of Podlachia."

One of the main attractions in Tykocin is the Tykocin Castle, also known as the Tykocin Royal Castle. Built in the 15th century, the castle served as a residence for Polish nobility. Today, it stands as a prominent example of Polish defensive architecture. Visitors can explore the castle's various rooms and admire its impressive fortifications.

In addition to the castle, Tykocin is also famous for its synagogue. The Tykocin Synagogue is one of the oldest and best-preserved synagogues in Poland. Built in the 17th century, it showcases stunning Baroque and Renaissance architectural elements. The synagogue now serves as a museum, offering insights into the history and culture of the Jewish community in Tykocin.
