Weeting

Weeting is a small village located in the county of Norfolk, England. Situated near the border with Suffolk, it is part of the Breckland district and lies approximately 7 miles northeast of the town of Brandon. The village is known for its picturesque rural setting and historical significance, dating back to Roman times.

One of the notable landmarks in Weeting is Weeting Castle, also known as Weeting Warren Castle. This medieval ruin is believed to have been built in the 12th century and was originally a fortified manor house. It served as a hunting lodge for the Bishops of Norwich and later became a moated castle. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the castle, including its impressive flint walls and the surrounding moat.

Another attraction in Weeting is the Weeting Heath National Nature Reserve. This heathland area is home to various rare and endangered species, including the stone curlew, a bird that has become a symbol of the Brecks. The reserve offers visitors the opportunity to observe these unique birds in their natural habitat, as well as enjoy the peaceful surroundings and diverse flora and fauna.

The village of Weeting itself has a charming rural character, with traditional thatched cottages and a friendly community atmosphere. The village church, St. Mary the Virgin, is a Grade I listed building that dates back to the 14th century.
