West Germany, officially known as the Federal Republic of Germany, was a sovereign state that existed from 1949 to 1990. It was formed after World War II as a result of the division of Germany into two separate entities: East Germany (German Democratic Republic) and West Germany. The establishment of West Germany marked the beginning of the Cold War era, with the country aligning itself with the Western Bloc and becoming a key player in the global political landscape.

During its existence, West Germany experienced significant economic growth and development, often referred to as the "German Economic Miracle."
