The township was incorporated in 1926, after being separated from Franklin Township. It was named after Abraham Wyckoff, a member of the prominent Wyckoff family who were early settlers in the area.

Wyckoff is known for having a highly rated public school system, which includes four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The township also has several parks and recreational facilities, including the Wyckoff Family YMCA and the Zabriskie Pond Park.

As of the 2010 United States Census, the township had a population of 16,696. It has a diverse population, with a mix of residential and commercial areas, as well as a number of historic sites and landmarks.
