Kayunga

Kayunga is a district located in the central region of Uganda. It is situated approximately 77 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Kampala. The district is bordered by Kamuli District to the east, Mukono District to the south, Luweero District to the west, and Amolatar District to the north. Kayunga covers an area of about 2,228 square kilometers and has a population of over 400,000 people.

The district is known for its diverse and picturesque landscapes. It is characterized by rolling hills, fertile valleys, and numerous rivers and swamps. The prominent rivers in the area include River Nile, River Ssezibwa, and River Mbalala. These water bodies not only provide a scenic view but also serve as sources of water for domestic use, agriculture, and fishing activities.

Kayunga is primarily an agricultural district with the majority of the population engaged in farming. The fertile soils and favorable climate make it suitable for cultivating a variety of crops such as maize, bananas, coffee, beans, and cassava. The district also has a thriving livestock industry, with cattle, goats, and poultry being reared for both subsistence and commercial purposes.

In addition to agriculture, Kayunga has a growing tourism sector. The district is home to several attractions that draw visitors from within Uganda and beyond. One notable attraction is the Ssezibwa Falls, a series of beautiful waterfalls located on the Ssezibwa River. These falls are not only a sight to behold but also hold cultural and spiritual significance for the local Baganda people.
