Mukono

Mukono is a town located in the central region of Uganda, East Africa. Situated approximately 21 kilometers east of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, Mukono serves as the administrative center of the Mukono District. It is a bustling town with a population of over 161,000 people, according to the 2014 national census.

Mukono is known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. The town is home to the Buganda Kingdom, one of the oldest and most powerful traditional kingdoms in Uganda. Visitors can explore the Buganda Royal Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the kings of Buganda have been traditionally buried for centuries. The tombs are an important cultural landmark and offer a glimpse into the history and traditions of the Buganda people.

Aside from its cultural attractions, Mukono is also famous for its natural beauty. The town is surrounded by lush green hills and scenic landscapes that provide a breathtaking backdrop. Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the second-largest freshwater lake in the world, is also located nearby.
